The Digital Pathway to Net-Zero

Ar Prof Ada FUNG, BBS, is President of Hong Kong Alliance of Built Asset & Environment Information Management Associations, and Chair of Hong Kong Chapter of buildingSMART International.

She is Honorary Professor and Distinguished Faculty Fellow of Faculty of Architecture at The University of Hong Kong, amongst other appointments.

An architect by profession, Ada Fung is the Former Deputy Director of Housing (Development & Construction) of the Hong Kong Housing Authority, overseeing all facets of public housing development representing homes for almost half of the Hong Kong population. Retired from the Housing Authority in end 2017, Ada continues her drive on sustainability and quality in the built asset industry.

She is Past President of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (2013 – 2014), Past Director and Board Secretary of the World Green Building Council (2018-2020), and Past Chair of Committee on BIM of the Construction Industry Council(2017-2023).

My Sustainability Goals for 2023:

Ada Fung’s Sustainability Goals for 2023-2024 follow the buildingSMART’s vision in the full realization of the societal, environmental and economic benefits of open sharable infrastructure and building asset information into commercial and institutional processes worldwide. We aim to facilitate the active use and dissemination of open data standards enabling infrastructure and building asset data and lifecycle processes.

Terence is the Founder and CEO of Varadise Limited. With a strong background in digital transformation, he previously served as the Head of Digital Transformation at a prominent contractor company. Throughout his career, Terence has been at the forefront of innovative development projects, specializing in BIM Analytics, AI analytics, IoT, VR, and business intelligence (BI). His primary focus has been on leveraging technology to drive business transformation and efficiency. A remarkable achievement in his career was becoming a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE) at the young age of 32, making him one of the world’s youngest ICE fellows. His dedication to the field is evident in his expertise in construction digitalization, particularly in the automation of site monitoring processes.

My Sustainability Goals for 2023:

Terence’s vision is to revolutionize the construction industry by utilizing data-driven approaches to enhance productivity, quality, and safety. He firmly believes in adopting an integrated construction approach, which he calls Construction 2.0, to optimize construction practices and outcomes.

James Thompson is the Head of Digital at Gammon Construction and his focusses include Innovation, Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) and leading the CoE of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Gammon. James strives to improve the Hong Kong Construction industry and champions the adoption cross industry global best practice and bleeding edge technologies to improve corporate outcomes related to digital transformation and innovative corporate change.

James has more 17 years of global experience working in Hong Kong, UK and Middle East delivering BIM, PLM & GIS for public and private sector clients in construction, manufacturing, & industrial sector projects.

Personally, James is very passionate about climate change and developing the next generation to help us save and improve the environment we live in today.

My Sustainability Goals for 2023:

Digital Efficiency: Implement technology and digital tools to streamline construction processes and reduce waste. This will include adopting advanced BIM software, AI for optimization, or predictive analytics tools to anticipate and avoid inefficiencies.

Energy Efficiency: Implement digital technologies during the construction phase to improve the energy efficiency of our projects and can be used during operations and in-use phases.

Claudio Trucco is the Digital Lead for Buildings & Places, Asia, at AECOM. He is an architect and a strategy and innovation professional with over ten years’ experience across Asia’s built environment sector. Having worked in China, Thailand and Hong Kong, Claudio has worked on a wide range of project types within the realm of smart cities and sustainable urban design. His main focus is to integrate digital processes and tools seamlessly into every stage of a project’s lifecycle, resulting in enhanced values for clients and stakeholders. Claudio holds an MBA from the Macquarie University of Sydney and a Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Genova.

My Sustainability Goals for 2023:

To develop stronger and more impactful global partnerships and collaborations aiming to create inclusive and sustainable solutions in the built environment, addressing the challenges posed by climate challenge.

Colin is the Solution Lead at Fujitsu Hong Kong, responsible for designing and building the digital transformation solution and roadmap for enterprise customers. Colin has a knack for crafting innovative solutions that propel enterprise customers through their digital transformation journeys, effectively addressing their unique business challenges. Colin’s innovative and strategic approach has seen him design and implement cutting-edge solutions that leverage the power of IoT, AI and Data Analytics. His profound understanding of the digital landscape allows him to craft tailored strategies that devise robust applications, streamlining operations, and gain a competitive edge. His personal passion lies in harnessing the power of technology to transform sustainability from a mere aspiration into a measurable and attainable objectives. Colin was graduated from the University of Liverpool, he also holds a Master Degree from the University of York.

My Sustainability Goals for 2023:

Using data to help organisations to identify inefficiencies, waste points, and improve recycling or waste management. Collaborate and co-create with customers using digital technologies to fostering transparency, accountability, and collective action towards their sustainability goals.
